Specialization Level in academic teaching – We are starting a new round!
You teach at FAU and…
- … have earned the Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities at the Advanced Level or plan to complete it soon?…
- … would like to develop your university teaching skills and reflect intensively on your teaching activities?
- … would like to try something new in your teaching and implement and evaluate it in the form of a teaching project?
- … would like to create a teaching portfolio that presents and documents your teaching activities and approach—for example, as part of application procedures?
Then we cordially invite you to join our Specialization Level Course! With a fixed group of lecturers, you will complete the six-month course in face-to-face seminars, self-organized group phases, collegial observations, and counseling sessions with university didactics experts.
You will complete the Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities – Specialization Level with over 200 work units. Upon successful completion, you will meet the national and international standards for a good university teaching qualification and enhance your application documents with a teaching portfolio and teaching project as proof of your university teaching qualification.
Timetable for the 2025/26 season:
- September 22 to September 26, 2025: Preparatory self-study phase using materials provided by the course instructor (time required: approx. 5 hours)
- September 29, 2025: Presence seminar: Kick-off, your own teaching and learning biography
- September 30, 2025: Presence seminar: Teaching portfolio and writing workshop
- October 1, 2025: Presence seminar: Teaching project, evaluation, and project workshop
- By arrangement (October 2025 to January 2026): Collegial observations
- By arrangement (October 2025 to January 2026): Two self-organized group meetings
- Individual time management (October 2025 to January 2026): Independent creation of the teaching portfolio and implementation and evaluation of your own teaching project*
- March 2, 2026 Presence seminar: Presentation of teaching projects 1 and desired topic
- March 3, 2026 Presence seminar: Presentation of teaching projects 2 and peer feedback teaching portfolios
- March 4, 2026 Presence seminar: Final reflection
- By April 12, 2026 Optional consultation appointment to finalize the teaching portfolio, submission of teaching portfolio, submission of report on the implementation of the teaching project, submission of reflection report on the advanced level.
Information
The course will be held in German.
The teaching project can also be carried out in the summer semester of 2026 by arrangement.
The course is primarily aimed at FAU teaching staff. Non-FAU members may be admitted by arrangement.
