Specialization Level in academic teaching – new round starting!
You teach at FAU and…
- … have completed the Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities at the Advanced Level or plan to complete it soon?
- … would like to further deepen your university teaching expertise and reflect on your teaching practice?
- … would like to try something new in your teaching and implement and evaluate it in the form of a teaching project?
- … aim to create a teaching portfolio that showcases your teaching philosophy and experience — for example, to support applications?
Then we warmly invite you to join our Specialization Level Course! In a dedicated cohort of fellow instructors, you will complete this six-month course through in-person seminars, self-organized peer group phases, collegial teaching observations, and counseling sessions with university didactics experts.
Upon completion, you will earn the Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities – Specialization Level with over 200 work units. This qualifies you according to national and international standards for advanced teaching competency in higher education and enhances your academic application materials with a teaching portfolio and documented teaching project.
Timeline for the 2025/26 season:
- September 22 to September 26, 2025: Preparatory self-study phase using materials provided by the course instructor (time required: approx. 5 hours)
- September 29, 2025: In-person seminar: Kick-off, your own teaching and learning biography
- September 30, 2025: In-person seminar: Teaching portfolio and writing workshop
- October 1, 2025: In-person seminar: Teaching project, evaluation, and project workshop
- By arrangement (October 2025 to January 2026): Collegial teaching observations
- By arrangement (October 2025 to January 2026): Two self-organized group meetings
- Individual time management (October 2025 to January 2026): Independent creation of the teaching portfolio and implementation and evaluation of your own teaching project*
- March 2, 2026 Presence seminar: Presentation of teaching projects 1 and desired topic
- March 3, 2026 Presence seminar: Presentation of teaching projects 2 and peer feedback teaching portfolios
- March 4, 2026 Presence seminar: Final reflection
- By April 12, 2026 Optional consultation appointment to finalize the teaching portfolio, submission of teaching portfolio, submission of report on the implementation of the teaching project, submission of reflection report on the advanced level.
Information
The course will be held in German.
The teaching project can also be carried out in the summer semester of 2026 by arrangement.
The course is primarily aimed at FAU teaching staff. Non-FAU members may be admitted by arrangement.
