Our curriculum-based courses are designed for instructors who …

• want to engage in comprehensive teaching development through a structured program that equips them with all essential teaching skills.
• have limited time and wish to acquire core teaching cpmpetencies within one week or one semester.
• are eager to work closely with a fixed group and exchange ideas intensively with colleagues about their teaching.

Basic Level

With our subject-specific training program, we support medical educators in expanding their teaching competencies and further professionalizing their instruction. Twice a year, we offer a medical didactics course tailored specifically to the needs of instructors at the FAU Faculty of Medicine. This program can be booked via ProfiLehrePlus.de: Didactic qualification “Certificate in Medical Didactics Bavaria – Basic Level“.

Upon successful completion of this compact course, you will earn the Certificate in Medical Didactics Bavaria – Basic Level, which fulfills the didactic qualification requirement for the habilitation process for practicing physicians.

Advanced and Specialization Level

Courses in medical didactics for the advanced level are also available on ProfiLehrePlus. Additional courses and information on the in-depth level can be found through the Bavarian Competence Network for Medical Education (Kompetenznetzwerk Medizinlehre Bayern).

External Qualification

Recognized external providers include universities that offer the Certificate in University Teaching of the Bavarian Universities or the Certificate in Medical Didactics Bavaria.
The Certificate in Medical Didactics Baden-Württemberg is also accepted under our recognition guidelines.

FAU also offers a university teaching qualification program for student instructors, which leads to the FAU Certificate for Tutors. Through this program, participants develop a wide range of didactic, personal, and interpersonal skills to design and lead tutorials, exercises, or lab sessions in a way that supports student learning. They reflect on their role as student instructors and actively work on applying what they’ve learned to their own teaching practice

ProfiLehrePlus is a collaborative network of university teaching centers across all Bavarian universities. It promotes systematic professional development in higher education didactics and contributes to the long-term improvement of teaching quality. Today, ProfiLehrePlus is one of the largest teaching development networks in Germany that offers certification-based programs.

Each university’s teaching center operates independently, but they have come together to form a shared learning environment. Instructors at Bavarian universities can attend any seminar offered within the network — and all work units earned count toward the joint Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities, without any additional administrative effort.

As an FAU instructor, you not only have access to the seminar program of the FAU Competence Center Education, but also to the entire continuing education offering on ProfiLehrePlus.de. All work units earned in these seminars can be applied toward the standardized Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities.

Once you’ve completed your profile with all mandatory information, you can book seminars. After each registration, you will receive a confirmation email — including payment details if applicable.

If a seminar is fully booked, you can register for the waiting list. You will be notified by email if a spot becomes available. If you no longer wish to take the spot, please cancel your registration within three days via your ProfiLehrePlus account or inform us by email at lehre-hochschuldidaktik@fau.de.

For seminars with up to 29 work units, the cancellation deadline is 14 days before the seminar starts.
For curriculum-based courses with 30 work units or more, the cancellation deadline is 30 days before the course starts.

If you cancel after the deadline, the full participation fee will still apply — this also includes cancellations due to illness at short notice.
Please note: FAU Lehre reserves the right to cancel seminars on short notice for valid reasons (e.g. illness of the instructor, low number of participants).

Our seminars are organized into the following content areas:

• Area A: Teaching and Leanring Concepts
  e.g.: general higher education didactics, course design, use of methods, media didactics, instructional design, education for sustainable development (ESD), diversity in teaching
• Area B: Presentation und Communication
  e.g.: rhetoric, presentation techniques, visual communication, facilitation, communication skills
• Area C: Assessment
  e.g.: designing and conducting exams, examination law, supporting students with exam anxiety
• Area D: Reflection und Evaluation
  e.g.: course evaluation and feedback, teaching roles and attitudes, reflection on teaching identity
• Area E: Advising and Counseling Students
  e.g.: student advising, organizing office hours, conversation techniques, supervising student work, conflict management

ur seminar fees are based on the number of work units (Arbeitseinheiten = AE). Regular rate: 1 AE = 6,25 EUR. Instructors employed part-time may pay the reduced rate (1 AE = 3,75 EUR).

In some cases, prices may vary — for example, for intensive workshops with fewer than 12 participants. Occasionally, individual workshops are offered free of charge, particularly when funded through project grants.

Please transfer the participation fee no later than six weeks before the seminar begins. You will receive payment instructions, including bank details and reference information, via email after your registration is confirmed. Please note that internal processing of your payment takes approximately 10 days, and you will receive a confirmation email once it has been recorded.

* Reduced rate applies to instructors employed part-time at 59.9% or less (including all university and non-university employment combined).

For each seminar you attend, you will receive work units (Arbeitseinheiten = AE) assigned to a specific content area. The number of AE is based on the length of the seminar or the estimated time required for self-directed learning: One AE corresponds to one seminar hour (= 45-minutes).

You will receive a certificate of attendance for each seminar you complete. A few days after the seminar has ended, your attendance will be recorded on www.profilehreplus.de. After that, you can download your certificate as a PDF via the “My ProfiLehrePlus” section. The certificate documents your attendance, the number of work units (Arbeitseinheiten = AE) earned, and the content area of the seminar.

To ensure fair awarding of work units, any absence of more than 45 minutes will result in a proportional deduction of AE from the certificate of attendance (1 AE = 45 minutes).

Participants must attend at least 80% of the seminar to receive a certificate.

After successfully completing our higher education didactics seminars, instructors are eligible to participate in the Certificate Program for Teaching in Higher Education for the Bavarian Universities, which documents all completed training activities. The Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education of the Bavarian Universities can be a valuable qualification in application and appointment processes.
