With the establishment of the FAU Competence Center Education<\/strong>, departments that have long been working toward a common goal \u2014 shaping high-quality, contemporary, and effective teaching at FAU \u2014 have drawn closer together. After all, it is now virtually impossible to think of digital teaching, innovative teaching and learning formats, examinations, and media and higher education pedagogy as separate entities. Ultimately, the best teaching is achieved through collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The merger of the predecessor institutions ILI and FBZHL was therefore far more than an organizational step. It was a deliberate signal: teaching at FAU is to be developed in a strategic, networked, and future-oriented manner. On March 1, 2025, the time had come: the starting signal for FAU CCE<\/strong> was given. In the first year, structures were consolidated, a unified brand identity was established, and new initiatives were launched, including the FAUstairs<\/a> project, which has been running since October 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, three departments work closely together within the FAU Competence Center Education<\/strong>: StudOn<\/strong>, Learning Design<\/strong>, and Continuous Professional Development<\/strong>. They bring different perspectives to the table but share a common goal: to provide the best possible support to faculty and students and to actively advance teaching at FAU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The StudOn department, with StudOn and StudOn-Exam<\/strong>, represents the central platforms for digital teaching, learning, and assessment at FAU<\/strong>. It develops tailor-made solutions for the university and offers support and advice on all aspects of using the systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Learning Design<\/strong> department drives the innovative advancement<\/strong> of teaching. It supports faculty in designing digital teaching, learning, and assessment formats, in addressing media-didactic questions, and in producing teaching and learning materials<\/strong>. The vhb-office<\/strong>, which assists FAU faculty in the development and implementation of vhb courses, is also located here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Continuous Professional Development<\/strong> supports faculty members at all levels in systematically developing their teaching skills and designing innovative, engaging, and student-centered education<\/strong>. Among other things, these programs lead to the Certificate in University Teaching from the Bavarian Universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first year, the initiative did more than just bring people together organizationally. It also became clear, in terms of content, what potential lies in this collaboration. Expertise in infrastructure, innovation, media production, consulting, and continuing education can now work together more effectively under the umbrella of FAU Education. This is precisely what is crucial if teaching at a university is to be further developed as a shared endeavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Competence Center Education is jointly managed by a collegial leadership team<\/a> and supported by its members. This governance structure strengthens FAU CCE as a shared organization within the university and creates a solid foundation for further advancing teaching development across the entire FAU. Interested faculty members are welcome to apply for membership and thus actively shape the future direction of the Competence Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After one year, we can therefore say: The merger was the right decision and an important one. Together, we simply make more progress in teaching development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
