At this year’s ILIAS Conference in Berlin, the theme “ILIAS meets Generative AI” took center stage. Numerous contributions from the ILIAS community showcased how AI can be technically integrated into the platform and meaningfully applied in higher education teaching.

The FAU Center for Teaching Excellence participated with a presentation titled “AI in ILIAS.” The talk highlighted practical use cases for university teaching – such as automatically generating text content for course and group pages or learning modules, creating self-assessment questions for tests, and configuring support systems like chatbots and virtual coaches.

Currently, various AI tools are being tested for use in StudOn. In a pilot phase, these tools are being trialed in selected courses in close collaboration with instructors and students. The results of this testing phase, along with feedback from the pilot courses, will play a key role in determining how AI tools will be integrated into StudOn in the future.
