With SMART vhb, you can use or/develop 45-minute interactive learning units that can be seamlessly integrated into classroomand online phases – forflipped classroom scenarios as well asfor asynchronous follow-ups.
All units are available throughout Bavaria in the SMART vhb repositoryandcanbe integrated directly into your courses.

SMART vhb provides tailor-made building blocks for blended learning: Knowledge is built up online and asynchronously, and attendance time is freed up for application, discussion and feedback. In this way, you address heterogeneous previous knowledge, increase activation and increase the satisfaction of your students.

Use learning units
In the SMART vhb repository you can search by subject area and topic, create your own collections, and then easily link or embed the materials in your courses.
Here’s how it works:
- Repository: SMART vhb repository (login with your university ID) for researching and creating collections
- Embedding: embed directly in StudOn either via link or via edu-sharing plugin
- Feedback: Built-in feedback function supports continuous improvement

Developing learning units
The uniform 45-minute format with defined learning objectives, linkedmedia and interactive tasks offers a clear structure foreffective blended learning.
The most important things in brief:
- Format: 45 minutes, clear learning objectives, varied self-study routes with immediate feedback
- Tools: H5P editor directly in the vhb repository or external/in StudOn with subsequentexport.
- Inspiration & Guide: The SMART vhb repository (login with your university ID) and the SMART vhb guide “Good Practice SMART vhb” provide hints and tips on how to create your SMART vhb learning unit

Funding
vhb supports the development of new units and adaptations with annual funding rounds – ideal for implementing blended learning concepts in an uncomplicated and sustainable way.
Important information:
- Funding amount: up to 3,000 euros (mainly new materials) or up to 1,000 euros (adaptations, language versions, updates) per course unit
- Deadlines:
- Next deadline for submission: 15 May 2026
- Project start: 1 September 2026
- latest provision in the repository: 15 October 2027
- Application: via the vhb representative of your university, contact see below
- Procedure: after creation and formal review, activation in the repository
